ZAC HOSTS INAUGURAL ‘GRAND JASHAN’ TO COMMEMORATE BEHRAM ROJ, ARBAB GUIV BAAJ

October 5, 2019 marked a significant moment for the Zoroastrian Association of Metropolitan Chicago as the community came together to worship as one, at the first-ever Grand Jashan commemorating Behram Roj and the Arbab Guiv Baaj. ZAC is so thankful to Farida Sharyari for her grand idea and organization of this event! Thank you to Zinnia Elavia for helping with coordination of this event as well.

Special thanks to our priests: Jamshed Antia, Boman Damkevala, Neville Karanjia, Zarvan Karanjia, Freddy Gonda, Sheroy Gonda, Pesi Vazifdar and Neville Vazifdar, for filling the hall with beautifully recited prayers. Afterwards, around 125 community members and friends gathered for a delicious dinner catered by Jamshed Kavina, and hosted graciously by the Dukandar, Pooniwala, Rustomji families. Thank you as well, to the Sharyari family for the delicious Kheemo and yummy desserts and Kiku Engineer for the tasty mango ice cream.

ZAC is grateful to the organizers, host families and our revered mobeds for bringing the community together to celebrate the philanthropy and legacy of our community’s namesake, Arbab Rustom Guiv. We remain forever grateful for his generosity.

Hamāzor Hamā Ashō-bēd!

May we all be united in strength and righteousness!

September 2019 Newsletter

The Power of Giving

Happy New Year and Khordad Saal Mubarak! Hope everyone had a wonderful summer and are ready to welcome a fabulous fall!!

Sincere thanks to all our priests for the Muktad prayers and all volunteers, for dinner for the 5 days and for making Navroz celebration a grand success.

We certainly lived up to our ancestral philosophy of Khavanu, Pivanu and Maja karvanu (Eat, drink and be merry) at this event. We raised around $950, for our Ava project, that evening through our fundraising efforts of selling food items and raffle tickets. One other philosophy is ‘giving back’ and we ALL need to embrace it as a community.

We are always very appreciative of the donations we receive as there is always a need for funds to maintain our Darbe Mehr. Our goal currently is to pay off the balance of our loan for the Ava project and we are halfway there through generous donations and pledges. If this is not a cause you wish to support, there are some other causes that you might want to donate towards. A list of those items is included in this newsletter and we hope to find respective donors for the same! We want everyone in our community to embrace the ‘giving back’ philosophy and help towards managing
and maintaining our Darbe Mehr!!

Hamāzor Hamā Ashō-bēd!

May we all be united in strength and righteousness!

August 2019 Newsletter

Dear friends,

On July 27, our community came together for a community service event at the Aurora chapter of Feed My Starving Children. This powerful Catholic charity-led organization focuses on feeding malnourished children in many impoverished locations across the world.

Organized and coordinated by Persis Driver, the event brought together 55 community members from multiple generations who were energized to make a difference. In total, our community, alongside a few other organizations, packed 97 boxes, 20,952 meals, equating to 57 kids who will be fed for a year.

As a leading religious organization in Chicago and throughout North America, ZAC will continue to seek out ways to make a difference for those less fortunate locally or overseas. Through invaluable service projects like Feed My Starving Children, we are able to make a difference in our communities, increase awareness of our faith, and join forces with other religious organizations in the Chicago area.

Please look for a more detailed report with pictures to be published on our website shortly at https://zamc.org.

Thank you to everyone for your participation, and may Ahura Mazda continue to bless us with the strength and resources to continue serving our community.

Hamāzor Hamā Ashō-bēd!

May we all be united in strength and righteousness!

July 2019 Newsletter

Dear friends,

Each July, ZAC brings children together for one of their most exciting events: the annual ZAC Youth Camp. A summer highlight of every young Zoroastrian living in Chicago, the ZAC Youth Camp is today one of the most popular religious education programs that builds connectedness, togetherness and packs a ton of fun along the way.

The camp would not be possible without the leadership and energy of Farida Sharyari and the Sharyari family, volunteers, and camp counselors, who each year make the camp a reason to brag about your membership in ZAC. Parents from Indiana, Wisconsin and other midwest states send their children to refresh on religious principles and form bonds to last a lifetime.

At this month’s camp, we will spotlight similar experiences of our elder Chicago-area youth who attended the highly successful 7th World Zoroastrian Youth Congress in Los Angeles. On Sunday, July 14, we encourage you to attend a special panel discussion where you’ll hear all about the congress from the youth we sponsored, and all about how their experiences will shape their future. We look forward to
seeing you there!

Hamāzor Hamā Ashō-bēd!

May we all be united in strength and righteousness!

June 2019 Newsletter

Dear friends,

It’s been just over one year since we were elected to serve as your new board of directors. We are grateful for your ongoing support as we work to strengthen the fabric of our community, fix areas in need improvement, and work to bring a fresh and innovative approach to how we operate.

At our recent AGM, Sunday, June 9, we had a chance to provide the community with an update on our efforts, including pivotal ongoing investments in the House Next Door and rebuilding our infrastructure through the Ava Project. We are grateful to each of you for the fundraising contributions so many families and individuals have made to strengthen our community infrastructure.

There are decisions we need to make as a community that are still outstanding, such as the continuation of our daily priestly services. Such decisions can only be made collectively by community members and Mobeds voicing their opinions and concerns in a constructive and collaborative setting. We will continue to facilitate the discussion and work toward a solution that is in the best interests of our community and our highly respected and beloved Mobeds.

We ask that on such consequential decisions affecting our community, that we all exercise Vohu Manah, our good judgement, to arrive at an outcome that serves our entire community’s best interests. The board will always strive to work toward maintaining unity, to imbibe our religious values, and to keep our community flame healthy and burning brightly for future generations.

So as we embark on another year of continuous improvement, we thank you for your support and your constructive feedback. We look forward to another year of moving our community forward with the energy, wisdom and sound decision making our ZAC deserves. Best wishes for a safe and happy summer!

Hamāzor Hamā Ashō-bēd!

May we all be united in strength and righteousness!
