December 2023 Newsletter

Dear community members and friends,

As we enter the home stretch of 2023, we hope the December ZAMC Newsletter finds our community members ready to welcome the holiday season and participate in festivities filled with joy and happiness.

The ZAMC has had a busy month as we close out 2023. Among the highlights was our 2023 global Society of Scholars of Zoroastrianism (“SSZ”) Conference, which took place on Saturday, November 18. The event kept its promise of being information-filled for interested audience members ranging from professionals who have devoted their careers to studying Zoroastrianism to community members who are keen on maintaining academic touch with our proud religion and history. It was heartening to see so much enthusiasm from both professional scholars and students, as well as community engagement towards making this such a successful event. A full report and more details (as well as a message from our SSZ President, Zal Taleyarkhan) are featured further down in this newsletter.

We hope to keep the momentum going in 2024, especially with the 2024 FEZANA AGM, which will be hosted by the ZAMC this coming April. We need volunteers for a variety of tasks and events, so please contact our ZAMC President, Jamshed Rivetna, at jamshed.rivetna@zamc.org to join our planning committee.

There are also many other opportunities to become more involved and make a positive difference in the goings on in our community (many of which are mentioned throughout this newsletter). Please contact a member of our Board to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

Finally, a reminder that as we close out 2023, please ensure that your ZAMC membership dues are paid. Your membership can be renewed online by visiting our website.

November 2023 Newsletter

Dear community members and friends,

We in the ZAMC Board hope that this November ZAMC Newsletter finds all our community members doing well and enjoying the crisp fall season.

This newsletter welcomes the month of November which is the month of Thanksgiving for us in the US. We here in the ZAMC are thankful to have had such a great year so far, filled with events that have brought us together as a community. The highlight event of November at our ZAMC is the global Society of Scholars of Zoroastrianism (“SSZ”) Conference, which will take place on Saturday, November 18. The event promises to be information-filled, with opportunities to hear from both professional scholars of Zoroastrianism in the morning sessions (those who have dedicated their lives and professions toward studying our proud religion), and then in the afternoon we will hear from those in our community who have taken a sincere interest in learning more about our faith. The event will end with a Zoroastrian traditional “Thanksgiving Patra nu Bhonu” dinner served by the youth in our community.

More details on the 2023 SSZ Conference are available further down in this Newsletter. Stay tuned as well for communications with the link to register for the Scholar sessions occurring in the morning.

That being said, as you can see in this latest issue of our ZAMC newsletter, there is no shortage of opportunities to become more involved and make a positive difference in the goings on in our community. Please contact a member of our Board to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

October 2023 Newsletter

Dear community members and friends,

Happy Fall to our community members! We hope everyone had a fantastic summer and are now embracing the cooler weather as we ease into a new season.

The past month has been particularly eventful for our ZAMC and we could not have done it without our amazing community members. The Board thanks all our volunteers from all generations who planned, participated in, and donated toward the 40th Anniversary celebrations for our beloved Dar-e-Mehr, including the Jashan that was held on the actual 40th anniversary date of September 3, and then of course the fabulously successful, fun 40th Anniversary celebration that took place on September 23. We have so much to be proud of and thankful for, and we hope this is a sign of a strong future led by the youth in our community to carry the torch in keeping us together.

September 2023 Newsletter

Dear community members and friends,

A belated Navroze Mubarak to our community! We hope the new year brings all in our community much happiness, good health, and success in all you undertake.

As we embark on the new year (and a new season), we both look back and forward at the many opportunities we have to come together as a community. One recent example was the amazing community engagement (from all age groups) and presence we saw at the Parliament of World Religions event this past August. Many thanks to all our volunteers and to the organizers who helped make this event so successful.

Now looking to the future, among the highlights on our list of upcoming events will take place on September 23, as we celebrate our ZAMC Dar-e-Mehr’s 40th Anniversary. Though we will be celebrating this year on September 23, our Arbab Rustam Guiv Dar-e-Mehr was actually inaugurated on September 3, 1983 with a Grand Jashan followed by festivities. So September 3rd, 2023 marks the actual 40th Anniversary of ZAMC. Similar to the celebration 40 years ago, this year too on September 23, we will be celebrating with a fun-filled evening with our fellow community members. The registration link for this event is now live (also provided in this newsletter). This is also yet another example of a great event that proudly features the wonderful efforts of our volunteers in our community and the younger generation. We hope to see many of our community members there! While we took special mention of two of our events mentioned above as an example of our community engagement, we want to take this opportunity to thank all our community volunteers and community members who are continually supporting all these amazing efforts for our various programs that are aimed at bringing our community closer together. None of this would be possible without your engagement.

August 2023 Newsletter

Dear community members and friends,

As we are approaching the Shenshahi Navroz, preceded by the Muktad days, we hope that this newsletter finds all our community members in good health and happiness. This is also a final opportunity to remind our community members who have not yet mailed their Muktad prayer forms that the deadline to mail the completed forms is August 7 (the form is attached to this newsletter).

In honor of the Muktad days, we would also like to draw your attention to the special article included in this month’s newsletter which was compiled by our own Mr. Kayomarsh Mehta which helpfully summarizes the meaning of Muktad and the various prayers.

We are also happy to welcome the Shenshahi New Year with a number of exciting events, beginning with our Navroz celebration on August 19. One month later on September 23, we will also be celebrating our ZAMC Dar-e-Mehr’s 40th Anniversary. The registration link is now live (also provided in this newsletter) and we hope to see many of our community members there!

July 2023 Newsletter

Dear community members and friends,

Now that the summer is in full swing, we in the ZAMC hope that our July newsletter finds all our members in the midst of enjoying the warm summer weather and accompanying outdoor activities. Thanks to all who attended our Annual General Meeting on June 11. We will be sending out the Minutes from the meeting very shortly by email.

Also, as our Shenshahi Navroze is fast approaching, along with the preceding Gatha days, we’d like to draw your attention to the Muktad prayer request form (attached towards the end of this newsletter) which we request be completed and mailed by August 7 to the address indicated in the form.

As mentioned in our June newsletter (and will be mentioned in upcoming email communications), we are excited about our upcoming Dar-e-Mehr’s 40th Anniversary. A reminder that the celebration will take place on September 23, so mark your calendars for this amazing event. We are especially proud of this event as it is being planned by a cross-generational team, and strongly supported by our younger generations of community members. Please do help us by coming out and supporting and encouraging their great efforts!

And as always, we in the ZAMC continually extend our encouragement for the youth of our community to engage with the ZAMC at all levels. As the future of our community, we cannot survive and remain relevant without your support, ideas, and drive to help keep our proud Dar-e-Mehr alive and our community prosperous and together.
